OPTICIAN HOSTAGE DIES

Dr Ian Squire was kidnapped from his accommodation along with three other Brits as they were undertaking missionary work in Delta State in the south of the country. Charity workers David Donovan, his wife Shirley and Alanna Carson have all been safely released following their abduction in the early hours of October 13. They were in the African country to offer cataract operations to the locals. Dr Squire ran his own opticians in Shepperton, Surrey, and had been founder and chairman of Mission for Vision since 2003. He founded the charity to provide training and eye equipment for clinics in several African countries, including Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, Mozambique, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. According to his website he had made 13 trips for the charity since 2003, accompanied by other opticians and volunteers. SEE CATERS COPY
